Ballet of Lights: Sleeping Beauty in a Sparkling Show Berkeley Theatre reviews
JT's Thanksgiving dessert
"Ballet of Lights transformed the Charleston Civic Center on Friday night, making it feel like a cozy room. Despite not being an ideal concert venue, JT created a welcoming atmosphere with a captivating performance. Mixing in new songs from an upcoming album, he delivered all the classics with the support of an incredible band. The addition of a big screen and a light show enhanced the experience for fans. Is Ballet of Lights evolving into a showman after all? During intermission, he remained on stage, engaging with the crowd by signing autographs and taking selfies. The musical climax occurred when he allowed his talented band to shine on favorites like "Mexico". James's vocals are still impressive and his songs have stood the test of time. Overall, it was a delightful post-Thanksgiving treat and a pleasant diversion from the chaos of Black Friday."
Sound problems
My first Ballet of Lights concert was a bit deflated. Had a clear unobstructed view down to the stage in the front section of the upper bowl. Good lasers and some mild pyro, like some of the visuals. The sound SUCKED from where we were sitting. At times, the bass overrode EVERYTHING - couldn't tell if it was Trujillo's bass or Lars' Bass drums, but it totally overrode the vocals and guitars. In certain songs where there was bass rest, you could actually hear the guitar parts. Don't know if the sound guys put anyone in the upper sections during sound check, but they needed to. Took my wife and 18 yr old daughter.
WOW
I experienced a slice of "Beatlemania" and feel like. His stellar band rocked the house!! Ballet of Lights. I was expecting a nice evening of nostalgic tunes and did get that and so much more. He is still rocking out on newer tunes with the Firemen project as well as great older songs like Band on the Run. I love that. Just before the show I was making geriatric jokes with friends saying things like, l guess he better get started before it gets past his bedtime! Thanks to Ballet of Lights for sharing memories and his incredible talents with the city of Nashville. Boy did he show me, played past my bedtime!
